The Kinkels biography
The Kinkels hail from Etten Leur in the southern county of Noord Brabant. When The Kinkels take stage it means party time. Their diverse and radiant programme makes the feet itchy and standing still impossible. It is therefore not surprising that The Kinkels are a welcome sight on the podium not only locally or nationally but also across the borders of the Low Countries. Led by a wickedly tight rhythm section, the melody of saxophone and keyboard in harmony with some strident guitar play, the audience is soon swept of its feet to enter the carefree realm of The Kinkel Experience. This unique experience is at the roots of the band's success and why they are asked over and over again. The band has an abundance of energy that flows through the audience.
The band since 1994
Over the last 16 years the band has developed from strength to strength. The wide range of musical backgrounds allows for a constant source of inspiration. It is therefore no surprise that every "Kinkel Experience" remains refreshing as the band strives to add new elements to their ever growing repertoire, tapping from a wide range of genres. This ability allows them to blow new life in songs that seem long forgotten.
Interestingly the name of the band came from the audience. The Kinkels toyed with the name " De Medeklinkers" ( meaning Consonants). When one day a member of the audience shouted: "Kinkels get going". The name stuck. Although the name Kinkel means Yokel or Teuchter, the band were not at least affronted but instead took a liking to the name.
The Dream team
The Kinkels consists of five musicians and a sound engineer. The drive of the band is the rhythm section. Tjeerd Mijzen on drums and Nathalie de Weert on bassguitar provide a solid and tight platform complimented by the creative melody and vocals of Bram van Steen on Keyboard. Sander Mijzen is responsible for the guitar play and the vocals. Fast, rhythmic yet with a raw undertone that add a unique emotion to the sound of the Kinkels. Jeroen Wouters plays the saxophone but apart from his vibrant solos, Jeroen is vocally very capable and when he sings the place goes crazy. Last but not least, Sander van Unen ensures that the sound of The Kinkels is in optima forma. In short, years of experience on stage and control of their musical instruments and equipment guarantees that an evening with the Kinkels results in a cracking party known as The Kinkel Experience.
